Connaught Place Moonshot Investment: ODFC Digital Helpdesk, Delhi

Ekta, a tech enthusiast, grabbed a coffee at a trendy Connaught Place (CP) café, scrolling through investment chats. A smooth-talking "trader" messaged: "Instant 20% returns on USDT arbitrage—scan this QR." Eager for quick gains, she transferred 5 USDT as "verification." Her wallet drained: 500 USDT vanished into a fake Tether pool.

Heart pounding amid CP's hustle, Ekta searched online and contacted the ODFC Digital Helpdesk. With Chainalysis Reactor, the ODFC experts traced the scam wallet across blockchains, linking it to 150+ victims in a ₹2 crore fake USDT racket. Memory forensics via Rekall exposed a clipboard hijacker swapping her addresses. Autopsy carved out deleted Telegram logs—classic "pig butchering" ploy targeting digital investors. The ODFC remote team extracted transaction hashes, proving non-delivery of the promised USDT. Within 72 hours, 420 USDT was recovered; the scammer's fiat gateway frozen. Ekta's portfolio secured with multi-sig wallets.

ODFC Uncovers Fraud in Garena Free Fire, BGMI/PUBG, Activision COD & Moonfrog Ludo King

⭕ ODFC.App has uncovered online gaming ecosystems—spread via social engineering on Instagram, Facebook, WhatsApp, and Telegram—as key conduits for advanced digital fraud.

Case examples from ODFC reports:

📌 Free Fire Recruitment Scams:

Scammers pose as Garena scouts on Telegram, offering "clan trial slots" for "entry fees" via UPI QR phishing or GPay redirects. Victims share OTPs for "verification," enabling SIM swaps that drain gaming wallets via micro-transactions. They then push RAT-laden "optimizer APKs" to steal session tokens for account takeover (ATO).

📌 PUBG Mobile/BGMI Pro Trials:

Fraudsters fake UC sellers on Instagram Reels, baiting with "pro squad invites" needing "kit deposits" through crypto tumblers or Paytm proxies. After payment, they use shared biometric "team apps" to drain Royale Pass wallets or sell skins on black markets. Telemetry reveals VPN-chained C2 servers hiding locations.

📌 Call of Duty Mobile Esports Lures:

Impostors mimic Activision on Discord, selling "CODM World League tryouts" with "registration bonds" via PhonePe. They bundle deepfake "analyzer tools" with keyloggers to grab Battle Pass credentials and COD Points for resale. Variants use eSIM burners to dodge KYC.

📌 Ludo King Cash Tournament Fraud:

Fake "high-stakes Ludo leagues" on WhatsApp demand "table buy-ins," then rig RNG via script injection. Screen-share "fair play" links allow clipboard hijacking of UPI PINs. ODFC flags polymorphic phishing mimicking Moonfrog Labs.

Startup Fundraising Scam in Delhi

Samar and his wife, Sakshi, had left behind their stable corporate careers to chase a shared dream — building a premium brand in corporate gifts and perfumes, something elegant and ethical that could set new benchmarks in the industry.

One fine morning, an email dropped into their inbox. A so‑called “Startup Adviser” from a Dubai-based accelerator claimed she had spotted their brand through an “emerging founders’ program.” The timing felt perfect, almost cinematic. Just days later, an Insta advertisement appeared on their feeds, inviting founders like them to a curated pitch session. The details sounded promising —Participation fee: ₹29,000 per founder, framed as a “refundable curation fee.” Add-on offer: ₹199,000 for a “priority VC slot,” guaranteeing face time with investors. Samar and Sakshi, hopeful yet cautious, decided to stretch their budget and signed up.

But on pitch-day, reality looked nothing like the glossy promise. Only 20 founders turned up and not a single “listed VC” was present. The organizers scrambled through excuses—flight delays etc. Everyone was reassured, refunds would happen “shortly.” By noon, the 5-star venue buzzed with whispers: “scam,” “fraud,” “cheating.” By afternoon, chaos reigned.

The aftermath was brutal. Samar felt betrayed. Sakshi, who had convinced her own family about this venture, was heartbroken. But instead of staying in despair, they chose the braver road—to seek justice. When they approached the ODFC Cyber Helpdesk, it felt like a lifeline. To their surprise, the ODFC wasn’t just another complaint portal. It was a continuum of cyber and legal escalation - an instant helpdesk, step-by-step support, and district-level services across India.

ODFC Webinar: Digital Asset Tax in India

In India, cryptocurrencies are taxed as Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs). If you are unsure about your crypto tax situation, you're invited to attend this webinar, and also, you may schedule tele-consultation with experts at your preferred time.

The ODFC digital community initiative is writing a new story of awareness and financial freedom in the lives of youth across India. Please visit 0DFC.com for more information.

🎯 Virtual Digital Assets (VDAs) -

1️⃣ - Profit Tax:

A flat 30% tax is applied to profits from trading, selling, or spending cryptocurrencies.

2️⃣ - Tax Deducted at Source (TDS):

A 1% TDS is applicable on crypto transactions exceeding INR 50,000 (or INR 10,000 in certain cases) in a financial year.

3️⃣ - Reporting:

Crypto Profits must be reported in the Schedule VDA of the Income Tax Return (ITR).

4️⃣ - No Distinction:

The tax rate applies uniformly, regardless of whether gains are short-term or long-term.

🎯 WHEN DO YOU HAVE TO PAY CRYPTO TAXES?

1️⃣ - Selling crypto for cash –

If you sell Bitcoin or other crypto for cash, you might owe taxes on any profit you make.

2️⃣ - Trading one crypto for another –

Swapping one crypto for another is usually a taxable event (e.g., trading ETH for SOL).

3️⃣ - Buying things with crypto –

Paying for goods or services with crypto is like selling it, so you might owe taxes.

4️⃣ - Getting paid in crypto –

If you mine, stake, or get paid in crypto, it’s typically taxed as income.

🎯 ODFC Digital Community -

As we know, large numbers of people are following cultural and traditional approaches, when it comes to dating and marriage in India. So, the matrimonial-cum-dating apps are still minting good money over it, although they become the center of a high level of scams.

MODUS OPERANDI:

Stage — 1

The scammer (girl) typically creates a profile with fancy pictures/videos appearing to be genuine and gets the verified tag on her profile on the matrimonial app. She does send a request to connect a potential victim (boy). Thereafter within a short span of time, she and her fake family member(s) have been winning the trust of the victim using multiple video calls, talking to his family members and finalizing the schedule of marriage etc.

Stage — 2

Further, after creating an emotional affair for a month or more, the girl, and her family (scammers gang) convince 'potential victims' to invest in crypto, by showing their ultra-modern lifestyle. The target person (victim) is psychologically pressurized by a scammer (girl) for taking quick decisions to invest in crypto, then he transfers a big chunk of money to a crypto investment platform (or UPI QR code) provided by her over a private chat. After some transactions, the victim's account gets blocked at that crypto platform. But the scammer keeps asking the victim to make further investments to secure the struck money. To get more insight on such cases, please feel free to contact us.

If you have been a victim of such Crypto Scams, then it's time to get help from the #ODFC Cybercrime Helpdesk.

Digital Arrest (Cybercrime) Helpdesk

In Digital Arrest, scammers trick the people on video calls by posing as police, CBI/RBI/Narcotics or ED officers. Interestingly, scammers use studios like real police stations and government offices and also wear police uniforms to look real. Nowadays, this is growing at a fast pace in India. Many complaints are being registered about this across the country. However, there is no such term as “digital arrest” in the law.

MODUS OPERANDI:

Stage — 1

The scammers typically call a 'potential victim' and inform that you are the intended recipient of a parcel/courier/FedEx, which contains illegal goods, drugs, fake passports or any other items.

Stage — 2

Further, scammers ask 'potential victims' to appear on video calls and then money is demanded by them to settle the matter. The target person (victim) is psychologically forced to stay online on video chat, i.e., called “digital arrest” until the scammers demands are met.

If you have been a victim of digital arrest scams, then it's time to get help from the Cybercrime Helpdesk.

RBI - UDGAM: Unclaimed Deposits Website

The RBI has launched a new centralized website named UDGAM (Unclaimed Deposits – Gateway to Access Information) on 17th August 2023 – that allows common people to search for unclaimed deposits across multiple Indian banks using a single common portal.

What is an Unclaimed Deposit?

If a savings (or a current) bank account doesn’t have any transactions for more than 2 years then it becomes dormant. The bank is required to contact the customer via e-mail, phone, SMS messaging and/or postal/courier services etc. But if this account/deposit does not see any activity (like deposit or withdrawal) from the account holder for 10 or more years, then such accounts are deemed as Unclaimed Deposits.

RBI - UDGAM - Unclaimed Deposit Search Portal

In India, there are thousands of crores (₹35,000 Crore as per 2022-23 data) lying in various banks as unclaimed deposits. Many banks proactively put out a list of names and addresses of customers with inoperative accounts and unclaimed deposits regularly. Till now one needed to check individual banks’ websites to find unclaimed deposits. Now with RBI UDGAM – the Centralized RBI Portal to Track Unclaimed Deposits, it will become easier for people to search for their unclaimed deposits in a user-friendly manner.

Reserve Bank Information Technology Pvt Ltd (ReBIT), Indian Financial Technology & Allied Services (IFTAS) and participating banks have collaborated on developing the portal. At the time of launch, the search facility will be available for data on unclaimed deposits of only 7 banks on the portal. These are State Bank of India (SBI), Punjab National Bank, Central Bank of India, Dhanlaxmi Bank Ltd., South Indian Bank Ltd., DBS Bank India Ltd., and Citibank. The facility for the remaining Banks in India on the portal will be made available in a phased manner by 15 October 2023.

This post is created by the ODFC - CMS team as per information available on the RBI portal. Please, contact your bank or ODFC - 24/7 Support Chat in case you require services regarding Unclaimed Deposit.

RBI - UDGAM -

DeFi Saving A/c in India - Crypto Investment

DeFi is coined with two words 'Decentralised' and 'Finance'. DeFi allows crypto users greater control over their funds. It consists of multiple financial products and services, which are easily accessible to anyone from anywhere via the Internet.

Before starting you should be aware that, buying or selling crypto assets is taxed at a standard rate in India. Any kind of cross-border transactions are regulated by FEMA law and guidelines provided by the Reserve Bank of India. Please, get advice from OZG FEMA Lawyers as per your requirements.

How to start with DeFi?

It is important to do your research about the various aspects of a DeFi protocol. This post is provided here on the ODFC page of your place to educate yourself about DeFi as there are several risks associated with it. Risks such as rug pull scams, fake projects, exit scams, and others, so learn about them before investing in any DeFi protocol.

Here are some of the steps to get started with DeFi:

1) Set up a Crypto Wallet -

Crypto wallets are digital wallets that allow you to store crypto and interact with various DeFi protocols. Usually, there are two types of digital wallets: Cold and Hot wallets. Choose a crypto wallet that best serves your financial interests and goals. Get help from OZGiAN Support Chat and subscribe to the exclusive ODFC services.

2) Acquire Crypto Coins -

As you may know in Demat Account, where you need a bank account/UPI to load cash in your trading account to invest money in the stock market, similarly here you need to acquire crypto coins to participate in and interact with various DeFi protocols. Some wallets are on crypto exchanges, where you can purchase crypto coins. Most protocols are built on the Ethereum platform, so it is advisable to start with ERC-20 tokens.

3) DeFi Investment Opportunities -

Now, look at some protocols that make it popular for investments.

a) DeFi Staking -

One of the most common crypto investment options is staking. It is essentially a buy-and-stake investment strategy to earn profits in the long run. It involves locking up crypto tokens to validate transactions in the DeFi protocol. You can earn profits from transactions made within the protocol you help validate. Some Crypto staking options can make you more money than traditional savings accounts. It is a good option if you have a large amount of crypto sitting in your wallet and want to put it to good use. Most popular crypto exchanges offer staking services, which can prove profitable, especially now as huge investments are being put into new blockchain protocols.

b) DeFi Lending -

Similar to traditional lending, crypto users can earn interest by lending their crypto to borrowers. Decentralised applications, or dApps, connect borrowers to lenders based on loan size and crypto collateral.

c) DeFi Trading -

You can also earn by trading various DeFi-related crypto on popular crypto exchanges. Subscribe OZGinvest chat to learn more about better offerings.

d) Interest in Savings Accounts -

Another investment option in DeFi is to create a crypto savings account. You can earn interest by transferring crypto sitting idle in your wallets to a crypto savings account. DeFi savings accounts can offer higher yields compared to banks' savings accounts. For example, some crypto savings account providers offer flexibility to users by not putting conditions on locking their crypto and allowing them to withdraw whenever they wish.

e) DeFi Yield Farming -

Crypto-yield farming is a more complex version of staking, and the term comes from how farmers maximize their yield by switching from one crop to another. Similarly, DeFi yield farming is about rotating your crypto investments to different yield farms. This DeFi protocol uses smart contracts to lock crypto tokens and pay interest.

4) What are the Risks?

Failure among start-ups business is common, so new companies using DeFi technology may not succeed, resulting in a loss of funds.

Additionally, DeFi protocols do not provide insurance like our traditional banks and NBFC companies in case of theft or if you become a victim of a crypto scam.

5)  Important Note:

Crypto products and NFTs are kind of unregulated and can be highly risky. There may be no regulatory recourse for any loss from such transactions. Every investor must do his/her research or seek independent advice if necessary before initiating any transactions in crypto products and NFTs.
